Happy Labor Day, John!
Today we honor all hard-working Americans and the labor movement that continues to fight for safe working conditions, fair hours, and living wages.
Labor Day was recognized as a federal holiday in 1894, and we’ve certainly come a long way since then. But, we can still do better for hard-working American families.
For starters, we need to increase the federal minimum wage to that of a living wage.
Virginia is in the process of gradually raising the minimum wage from $7.25 to $15 by 2026. In 2022, the Virginia state minimum wage will be $11 an hour.
Elaine’s fighting for a livable minimum wage for all Americans at the federal level and a permanent expanded Child Tax Credit, which will pull millions of Americans out of poverty.
She knows that no one should have to work multiple jobs just to make ends meet or provide for their families.
So, today we’ll celebrate with barbeques and cookouts, and tomorrow we’ll get back to work fighting for the rights of workers across the country.
