Happy Labor Day, John!

Today is about much more than a day off work or the unofficial end to summer, and I want to make sure we never forget why we celebrate.

The labor movement started a revolution in the workplace. Years ago, workers from across the country came together and demanded certain rights in the workplace -- rights that Kansas workers still benefit from today. Thanks to the labor movement, we have anti-discrimination laws, strong child labor laws, a 40-hour work week, overtime pay, and weekends off.

But we still have much to do to end injustices in the workplace. The wage gap is still present, the minimum wage is not a living wage, we don't have guaranteed paid family leave, and too many Kansans are working multiple jobs to make ends meet.

So today, I want you to enjoy your holiday and remember the hard-working women and men who made it possible. Tomorrow, we get back to work fighting for workers' rights across Kansas.

Thank you,

Laura
