John,
Labor Day is always an important time for us to reflect on the history of the labor movement and our contributions as union activists to our communities.
As activists, we've learned to stand up for others, fight for what's right, and uplift the dignity of all work. This Labor Day, I'm proud to be in this fight with all of you as we stand on the shoulders of labor leaders who've come before us.
This year we've seen the fruits of our labor in our continued fight for workers' rights. With the major win at the Department of Veterans Affairs that will get us back to the bargaining table to negotiate a new collective bargaining agreement to the announcement that TSA will have a new determination with expanded workplace rights, we have shown that when we fight, we win.
Whether we've been life-long union activists or are new to organized labor, we each have what it takes to advance workplace rights and defend the dignity of work. As unionists, we know the true meaning of solidarity and the power of coming together for a common cause. This Labor Day, I wish for all of us that our call to stand up for our neighbors and support our coworkers grows stronger than ever.
Thank you all for the labor you contribute at home, in your communities, and on the job. AFGE truly is an amazing team.
Thank you for being a part of our union family and have a safe and healthy holiday!
Happy Labor Day!
In Solidarity,
Dr. Everett Kelley
AFGE National President
