Congresswoman Lesko Weekly Update

Good Afternoon,

This week, I was back in Arizona meeting with constituents. On Tuesday, I hosted a Telephone Town Hall where thousands of constituents asked U.S. Border Patrol Tucson Sector Chief John Modlin and me questions about the ongoing crisis at our Southern Border. I also attended a briefing with other Republican members of Congress who provided me with an update on the crisis in Afghanistan. President Biden has created a humanitarian crisis and emboldened terrorists. I attended a bipartisan briefing on Afghanistan from the Secretaries of State and Defense, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff following the exit of all American troops. Rest assured, I will not stop until all Americans are safely evacuated from Afghanistan.

I also went on a tour of Athletico in Glendale, AZ, and discussed issues facing the physical therapy industry. Glad to have this state of the art facility in our district!

In the News

I want to make sure that you don’t miss a minute of what I’m doing to fight for our Arizona values each and every day. Check out some of my latest interviews and press clips to learn more.

Arizona's Family

I spoke with Dennis Welch on Arizona's Family about the Democrats’ radical spending in D.C. and to call on the resignation of both Biden and Blinken after the botched withdrawal in Afghanistan. Watch the full interview below:

Legislative Update

This week, I proudly cosponsored Representative Lisa McClain’s (R- MI-18) bill to posthumously award Congressional Gold Medals to the thirteen fallen U.S. servicemembers who were killed in the terrorist attack in Kabul, Afghanistan. By signing this legislation, we honor the powerful legacy of the courageous U.S. servicemembers who defended the lives of American civilians and our Afghan allies. I am incredibly grateful for the heroic work that U.S. servicemembers have done in Afghanistan.

I also joined Representative Claudia Tenney (R-NY-22) in demanding that the full, unredacted transcript from President Biden’s phone call with former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani be immediately released. According to reports, President Biden pressured Ghani to lie and claim that the fight against the Taliban was going well “whether it is true or not.” Allegedly, the Afghan President responded by saying, “Mr. President, we are facing a full-scale invasion.” It is unacceptable that Biden asked a foreign leader to lie to the American people.

Congressional Recognitions

Throughout the month of August, I had the honor to present Congressional Recognitions to fire and police departments across Arizona’s 8th Congressional District. It is an honor to recognize these outstanding men and women who dedicate their lives to serving our communities.

It was great to recognize the hard work and dedication of the El Mirage Fire Department.

Thanks to the Surprise Police Department for all you do to keep our community safe.

Casework Highlight

My office was contacted by a constituent requesting assistance because he was a Phoenix Police Department officer and left the force due to PTSD. He applied for medical retirement from the department but was denied. He worked several jobs for twenty years after and was diagnosed with Leukemia, which made the constituent unable to continue working. The constituent applied for social security disability but was denied. The constituent appealed the decision but went months without an update nor income. Our office reached out to the Social Security Administration, which resulted in the constituent receiving his assistance.

Mobile Office Hours

Our office is hosting Mobile Office Hours this Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at the Foothills Library Hummingbird Room from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM AZ Time! Our casework team is ready to answer your questions and assist you if you are having issues with a federal agency.
