Friends,

For years, tribal leaders, water protectors, and environmental activists in Minnesota and across the country have spoken out and organized to stop the Line 3 pipeline.

As soon as this month, this dirty fossil fuel pipeline expansion could pump nearly 1 million barrels of oil a day from Canada, through northern Minnesota, to Wisconsin. It would impact acres and acres of wetlands, endanger public health, and undermine the treaty rights and livelihoods of Indigenous people.

At a time when we must drastically cut our emissions to prevent the most catastrophic effects of climate change, the pipeline would have the environmental impact of putting 38 million more gas-powered vehicles on our roads. To make matters worse, it’s being built by the company responsible for the largest inland oil spill in our country’s history.

It’s unconscionable that our government has not stepped in to reject this disastrous pipeline.

If you agree, will you add your name to demand the U.S. government stop the Line 3 pipeline? Corporate profits should never come before the futures of Indigenous people and our planet.

Earlier this weekend, I was in Minnesota with tribal leaders and water protectors, who welcomed me and my sisters in Congress into their space to reject the Line 3 pipeline.

These leaders have faced oppression from law enforcement during their protests — more than 700 water protectors and Indigenous leaders have been arrested in their fight to protect the lands and water that they rely on.

The oppression and violence must end now. We join them in solidarity as they work to stop this pipeline from destroying their way of life and our planet. Please be part of this fight, too:

Add your name to call on the U.S. government to stop the Line 3 pipeline immediately. The futures of Indigenous people and our planet are on the line.

Make no mistake: The climate crisis isn’t a faraway threat — it’s here right now. The last thing we should do is build more fossil fuel infrastructure.

Thank you for recognizing this and speaking truth to power in this critical moment.

In solidarity,

Ilhan Omar
