Support Abortion Access in Texas
This week Texas passed - and the Supreme Court upheld - an extremely restrictive bill that bans abortion from 6 weeks into pregnancy, when most folks don’t even know they’re pregnant. In addition, anyone who helps someone get an abortion can be fined $10,000. These restrictive laws will disproportionately harm BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, working-class, disabled and immigrant Texans. It also puts abortion funds - which provide financial and logistical support for folks seeking abortions - at huge risk.
Abortion is healthcare, and healthcare is a human right. If you’re able, PLEASE donate - this thread [[link removed]] has a list of Texas abortion funds; this site [[link removed]] lets you split your donation among several abortion funds.
#WMATAVoteNo Rally - Tuesday @ 4pm, Columbia Heights Civic Plaza
The WMATA Board of Directors is voting on a proposal that would ban riders from public transportation if they are arrested, *not convicted*, of certain crimes. This is a violation of due process and will only lead to Black and brown people being blocked from essential public services in the DMV.
Join us as we rally along with Harriet’s Wildest Dreams, Libereaders DC, and Total Liberation Collective at Columbia Heights Civic Plaza on Tuesday, September 7 from 4-6pm . Bring noise makers, bring friends, and get ready to spread the word to riders about this dangerous proposal. Make sure to also sign on to our letter [[link removed]] to the WMATA Board of Directors.
Hurricane Ida Mutual Aid
Last week, New Orleans was hit especially hard by Hurricane Ida. Many areas are dealing with extensive damage, flooding, and power outages. As always, this climate disaster is disproportionately impacting communities that experience structural oppression. We are in solidarity with New Orleans and know that climate justice is racial justice. PLEASE donate if you are able to the following mutual aids:
