Hello everyone-

As many of you saw, the Colorado Independent Congressional Redistricting Commission released the
first staff plan map ([link removed]) on Friday evening. There will be two more staff plan versions released in the next 20 days, before maps are finalized and sent to the Supreme Court by October 1st. Unfortunately, the commissioners chose to put the interests of the urban Front Range first by diluting the voice of rural Colorado and completely changed the map from the first preliminary Congressional maps ([link removed]) released in June that were the subject of 36 hearings across the state.

Many of you have had the opportunity to weigh in on what you'd like to see and voice your concerns about your communities. But now is not the time to be quiet.

This week will be the final chance for you to weigh in and give the commission your feedback on the Congressional maps. You can do that by signing up below for a virtual time slot on September 7th, 8th, 9th or 10th.
Testifying options:
Tuesday, September 7 - 6:00-9:00 PM
Wednesday, September 8 - 9:00 AM-12:00 PM
Thursday, September 9 - 1:00-4:00 PM
Friday, September 10 - 9:00 AM-12:00 PM
Sign-up to testify >> ([link removed])
(NOTE: You must register in advance- registration closed 24 hrs BEFORE the meeting. All of these hearings are virtual)
I recommend that if you care about fair lines and competitive districts, you sign-up to speak with the commission ([link removed]) . This map prioritizes the interests of the Denver Metro (other than Republican Douglas County) and targets the voices of rural Coloradans. The commission also chose to split up the Western Slope, despite the voices of the people who live there.

However, the professional staff that works for the redistricting commission did a good job taking what they were mandated by the commissioners to do and still creating competitive districts. There is more to this process and it is likely that the proposed maps will change again. Please encourage those who care about fair lines to sign-up and speak to the commission this week. This is our last opportunity to weigh in through verbal testimony!
If you have any questions feel free to email Joe or myself.
