Kansas Republicans have gone over the line and are threatening to withhold state funding from hospitals that require staff to be vaccinated against COVID-19. In a meeting last Friday, Senate President Ty Masterson said he doesn't want the funds allocated for Kansas nurses and frontline health care workers to reach facilities with "counterproductive" vaccine requirements. This is appalling and an insult to our frontline workers who have sacrificed tremendously amid the COVID-19 pandemic. 

 

 

There is overwhelming scientific evidence that shows vaccines work and are instrumental in reducing the transmission of COVID-19. These coordinated and misguided attacks on science and vaccine requirements from Kansas Republicans are dangerous for our state, reduce trust in our public health institutions, and put all Kansans at risk.
