The Road to Recovery
South Louisiana began its recovery process this week following the widespread devastation inflicted by Hurricane Ida. Many communities suffered significant damage to homes, businesses, and other structures. Hundreds of thousands of residents are still without power, and gasoline is scarce throughout our communities.
But the people of Louisiana are known for their resiliency. We take care of each other. We're all working together to get the resources out there for our residents to rebuild and recover. I'm working with federal, state, and local officials around the clock to make sure that people can get back in their houses, get their communities back open, and restore fuel, power, sewer, and water systems as quickly as possible.
I had the opportunity to greet President Biden and White House Senior Advisor Cedric Richmond at the New Orleans Airport on Friday before they went to tour some of Louisiana's most impacted communities. We then traveled to Galliano to meet with local officials and discuss the immediate needs of our coastal communities.
Touring Devastated Communities
I toured some of our most hard-hit areas last week, including an aerial tour with Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng and Lafourche Parish President Archie Chaisson. We saw the devastation where Hurricane Ida came ashore as a dangerous Category Four storm near Port Fourchon and Grand Isle. We flew the path that Ida took to gain better insight into the destruction and assess these communities' immediate needs.
I was also able to visit with service members of the U.S. Coast Guard and Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office Special Operations division and thanked them for their heroic efforts. These brave men and women conducted rescue missions immediately after the storm passed.
It is an honor to represent you in Congress. For more information, please visit my website, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook pages.
