Dear Friends and Comrades!
The fall is finally here, and socialists are hitting the streets all over the country for Bernie, Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, and workers' rights. The Chicago Teachers' Union is striking for their students' welfare, GM workers are voting on whether to accept a contract or to remain on strike until all of their demands are met. Meanwhile, a rejuvenated Bernie Sanders has exploded back onto the campaign trail with Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib backing him. As Ocasio Cortez put it, "this is not just about running for president, it's about creating a mass movement of working class people."
That is the guiding principle of our Independent Expenditure Campaign for Bernie--not merely to push him to victory in the March 3rd Primary, but to use his familiar face and campaign platform to open up conversations with our neighbors and to gather data about the electorate for use in our LOCAL elections in 2021. The time for socialists to genuinely contest power is here, and Chattanooga is ripe for change.
To that end, please join us at our General Meeting Saturday, 26 October at 2 pm EST on the fourth floor of the downtown library to study the ground we hope to contest and to further flesh out our strategy. Dues-paying members are especially requested to attend, as we will be voting on several important resolutions and need you for quorum! Â
Also, if you need childcare at this meeting, please reply to this email with the number and age of your children!
We had our first door-to-door canvass for Bernie last weekend, and we're phone-banking this Thursday at 6 at UTC in the University Center. Please join us! And look for many, many future opportunities to plug into this campaign!
In Solidarity,
Chattanooga DSA
