The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act was introduced in the House late last month in an attempt for Congress to enact federal voting rights reform after the For the People Act was blocked by Steve Daines and his allies in the Senate.
This bill would restore the sections of the Voting Rights Act that were gutted by the Supreme Court in 2013 so that voters of color can be adequately protected from states that attempt to discourage or disenfranchise them.
Republicans are working overtime to tilt the scales in their favor before the next election, and the John Lewis Act might be our best chance to stop them in their tracks.
The fight to protect voting rights and preserve our democracy is nowhere near over and we’re going to need everyone working together for us to prevail.
