We talk a lot about the white supremacy and racism we see from Republican lawmakers in the U.S. Congress, but this isn't just a problem on the federal level.
Republicans in the Texas legislature just passed a new voter suppression bill -- S.B. 1. This bill bans drive-thru and overnight voting options, increases restrictions on mail-in voting, and more.
It's clear that this legislation will disproportionately harm communities of color, but during a discussion in the House, Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan attempted to ban the use of the word "racism" in the chamber.
Texas Republicans don't want you to say it, but we will: S.B. 1 is racist.
Republicans are changing the rules and excluding BIPOC voters from having their voices heard in our elections in order to hold on to power. That's racist, undemocratic, and just plain wrong. We need to fight back against this voter suppression bill right away.
