2022 needs to be progressives’ Year of The Courts to reverse the conservative takeover

Indivisibles --

Remember how you felt during the Kavanaugh hearings? Or the night that RBG died? Or this week, when SCOTUS took their biggest step yet towards overturning Roe v. Wade?

The despair we felt at those moments is matched only by the enthusiasm Republicans feel at having brought us to this point. In one of our toughest weeks in recent memory, Republicans are celebrating.

Republican activists and donors have been obsessed with the Supreme Court for decades, because they know that despite seeming stuffy and dry, this unelected group of nine has a profound impact on every important political issue of our time. The Supreme Court’s decision to uphold a Texas law that effectively bans abortion throughout the state is the culmination of 50 years of a conservative campaign to pack our courts with extremists who will stop at nothing to overturn Roe. This week, their investments started to pay off.

It’s time progressives got onboard. 2022 needs to be progressives’ "Year of The Courts." If we don’t, we’re looking not only at the end of Roe v. Wade and the return of illegal, dangerous abortions for pregnant people nationwide, but also further attacks on voting rights, immigrants, workers advocating for better conditions, and other marginalized groups seeking justice. We need to invest in the courts as deeply as the conservatives have.

To do that, we need you to do two things:

  1. Read our explainer on why the courts matter and how we fix them and then start talking about this to everyone you know.

  2. Donate $10 to Indivisible Project. Conservative extremists spend literal billions of dollars to control the courts, and we need to be just as committed. We’ll spend this money on educating the public, running ads, organizing, and more, all with the aim of teaching everyone why the courts matter to them and their lives.

We don’t need to just stop the conservative takeover of the courts -- we need to reverse it. Otherwise all the rights we take for granted -- not to mention the progress we hope to see -- are on the chopping block. We need you now, more than ever.

In solidarity,
Indivisible Team
