In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court just allowed Texas’ near-total abortion ban to go into effect. The unsigned majority ruling sets the stage for other red states to follow Texas’ lead and enact their own abortion bans.
It’s effectively the end of Roe v. Wade .
If it wasn’t clear before, it is now: Democrats MUST act to end the filibuster, reform the Court, and restore the right to abortion in all 50 states.
This is not a drill. This is a real emergency.
We’ve launched a major effort to educate on how we can reform the Court and demand that Democrats take action now, including to protect abortion rights. Please chip in whatever you can and help get the truth out and fight back against this radical right-wing Supreme Court. [[link removed]]
This Draconian law bans abortion at just six weeks, before most people know they are pregnant, and puts a $10,000 bounty on the heads of anyone who “aids or abets” someone seeking an abortion.
People in Texas seeking abortion care will now have to travel an average of 248 miles to the nearest provider. So we must ask: Who can afford to take the time off work to travel so far? Who can afford the gas money, childcare, and hotel stay? Who can afford the out-of-pocket cost of the procedure itself?
That’s why working-class and low-income women, especially Black and Latina women, will bear the brunt of this abortion ban.
Please rush a donation today to ensure that we’re able to create more content, including to help restore balance to the Supreme Court and save legal abortion. [[link removed]]
Reforming the Supreme Court isn’t radical. Congress has changed the size of the Supreme Court SEVEN times in the past.
What's radical is enabling Supreme Court justices to take away voting rights and reproductive rights from millions of Americans.
There are steps that Democrats can take to reform the Court. They can:
*
institute
term
limits,
*
enforce
ethics
standards,
*
require
justices
to
disclose
their
conflicts
of
interest,
*
rotate
federal
judges
through
the
Supreme
Court
annually,
or
*
expand
the
court
to
make
it
more
representative,
as
many
are
now
discussing.
All of this is 100% consistent with the U.S. Constitution, which says nothing about how many justices sit on the court or for how long.
In addition, Democrats can get rid of the filibuster and codify Roe v. Wade into federal law by passing the Women’s Health Protection Act.
Unfortunately, too much of the media—and even some Democrats—dismiss common-sense Supreme Court reforms as “radical.” But Inequality Media Civic Action has built a massive online presence that allows us to bypass the corporate media filter and get our message out directly to the people.
We’re sounding the alarm with our millions of followers and educating them about the simple steps that Democrats can take right now to reverse the damage done by this radical right-wing Supreme Court.
Please donate whatever you can to help jump-start these efforts. We rely on small donations from our supporters like you, and any donation, no matter how small, helps. [[link removed]]
