MAJOR VICTORY FOR FLORIDA: REP. MATT GAETZ SECURES OVER $600 MILLION FOR NW FLORIDA MILITARY MISSION

I applaud Northwest Florida’s major funding victories in this legislation. Our community is proud of our contribution to the fight. With this historic financial commitment to Eglin, we are poised to attract even more military mission, strengthening our local economy and our nation’s defenses.
$359 million dollars is set to be authorized for needed military construction connected to Eglin Air Force Base (AFB). This includes upgrades to facilities to attract more research, development, test, and evaluation assets. Tens of millions is dedicated to enhance operational security. Eglin’s F-35 mission will specifically benefit from hangar construction funds to support additional aircraft. $100 million is planned to begin the Weapons Technology Integration Center project, which will vastly increase the local community’s capability to meet contracting needs.

•$91 million is planned for upgrades weapons test infrastructure.

•Also, Eglin Gulf Test and Training Range received over $20 million for upgrades for their Threat Simulator Development and major testing and evaluation investment to combat near peer adversaries.

•Northwest Florida private-sector employers will also see programs they support funded and expanded. In Crestview, Vertex Aerospace, repairs and assembles the Chinook Helicopter, which obtained a Gaetz-sponsored plus up of over $169 million. Niceville-based Solutions for Systems supports novel 3D printing for armament components and anticipates expansion due to a $10 million budget enhancement sponsored by Rep. Gaetz.   

•The Institute for Human and Machine Cognitive in Pensacola received full funding plus an additional $5M for robotic devices enhancing worker safety to be used for environmental cleanup and nuclear waste sites and another $10M for Sustained Human Performance and resilience that directly impacts the research to improve safety and performance for U.S. Navy Divers and the enhancing cognitive performance during long periods of strenuous operation tempo for the Special Operations Group. 

•Congressman Gaetz also ensured Hurlburt AFB, and the Special Operation Command was a focus during the NDAA by receiving full funding for the Osprey V-22. A $5M plus up and the C-130 modification was fully funded while receive an additional $131,500M. Unmanned Aircraft Systems at Hurlburt received a plus up of $10M for increased intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance technology.

•For the Active-Duty Families, Congressman Gaetz successfully supported a 2.7% pay raise and began the process to increase the Basic Housing Allowance in Northwest Florida, pending DOD action.

•Congressman Gaetz strongly opposes using the military to transport illegal aliens. The NDAA now demands a review of this activity pursuant to amendment by Rep. Gaetz.

This week, I joined Dr. Gina to discuss President Biden’s touting of a mere United Nations Resolution, urging the Taliban to allow freedom of movement in Afghanistan. The United States should not get into the business of negotiating with the Taliban, and relying on the UN to deal with the Taliban and promote safety in Afghanistan is pure ignorance.

LETTER SENT TO SECRETARY BLINKEN TO SEEK EVACUATION ASSISTANCE IN AFGHANISTAN 

On Wednesday, I sent a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, to express my concern over the dozens of SIV and P1/P2 applicants from Afghanistan and
their families that are currently being assisted by my office. These allies are still under processing and seek immediate evacuation from the region. We have heard firsthand reports of the Taliban going to these families’ homes in search of those who worked beside our military. We simply cannot rely on the Taliban to make promises to those who feel they are at risk. 

My office has been working with these individuals, but it is time for Sec. Blinken to step up. We cannot allow the Taliban to find and keep the Americans who are stranded in such a dangerous country.

CONGRESSIONAL GOLD MEDAL FOR FALLEN SERVICE MEMBERS IN AFGHANISTAN

After the horrific events in Afghanistan last week, I am proud to consponsor H.R. 5142, which would award Congressional gold medals to the 13 American soldiers who were killed by the bombings in Kabul. These American heroes will not be forgotten for undergoing the ultimate sacrifice for their country. We will never forget them.

NATIONAL RECOGNITION OF NAVY SEAL MUSEUM IN FLORIDA

I cosponsored Congressman Brian Mast’s bill that would recognize the Memorial, the Memorial Garden, and the K9 Memorial of the National

Navy UDT-SEAL Museum in Fort Pierce, Florida, as the official national memorial, memorial garden, and K9 memorial, respectively, of Navy SEALs and their predecessors. This bill would give each of the aforementioned facilities the “national” honorific in their titles for the purposes of attaining the intrinsic value of national recognition of the memorials, distinguishing the memorials from similar sites, and improving the museum’s advertising capabilities and subsequent visitor experience.

DEFUNIAK SPRINGS WINS $217,000 GRANT AWARD

The National Park Service (NPS) has named DeFuniak Springs Landmarks Inc. as one of its 11 recipients of the 2021 Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Grants program. Specifically, this program entails the Revitalization of Historic Houses on the Campus of the Florida Chautauqua These funds will be used  to enable the rehabilitation of historic properties and rehabilitate, protect, and foster economic development in Northwest Florida.

I am excited to announce that NW Florida State has been awarded $113,220 from a Department of Transportation (DOT) discretionary grant. Specifically, these funds will be used to promote safety under the Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator Safety Training Grant Program.
