The Latest Research, Commentary, And News From Health Affairs
Friday, September 3, 2021
Dear John,
Today we are revisiting the five most popular journal articles from the
past month.
August's Most-Read Articles
Don't miss our five most-read journal articles in August:
1. Sumedha Gupta and coauthors examined the association between US
state-level vaccination rates and COVID-19 deaths
and estimated that, by May 9, 2021, the US vaccination campaign was
associated with a reduction of 139,393 COVID-19 deaths.
2. Hannah Neprash and coauthors explored airborne disease transmission
in medical office settings
and found that patients exposed to influenza-like illness in a primary
care setting were more likely than non-exposed patients to revisit with
a similar illness within two weeks.
3. Scott Howell and coauthors investigated the intensification of drug
pricing and spending
and subsequent utilization management implementation and associated
costs. They found that combined costs shared among stakeholders totaled
to at least $93.3 billion per year.
4. Katie Keith updated readers on all things Affordable Care Act
,
including the Supreme Court's ruling to uphold the law in California
v. Texas and the Biden administration's first proposed rule on
Marketplace coverage.
5. Tara Templin and coauthors examined how democratic and autocratic
values inform health coverage and spending
and found a positive association between democratic quality and
universal health care coverage.
Today on Health Affairs Blog, Henry Waxman, former chairman of the House
Energy and Commerce Committee, and Autumn Ehnow discuss why the US Food
and Drug Administration should explore new ways
to
encourage trial sponsors to include more diverse study participants.
