This week, the Supreme Court took a decisive step in eliminating a woman’s right to choose by allowing a near-total ban on abortions to be implemented in Texas — effectively nullfying Roe v. Wade .

The Texas law bans all abortions at six weeks of pregnancy — before most women know they are even pregnant. And it does it by turning neighbors on each other: awarding bounties of at least $10,000 to people who successfully sue women who seek abortions after six weeks or those who helped them.

Make no mistake, this is a brazen, unconstitutional decision that puts the lives of so many people in danger. And it’s why I have demanded that Congress guarantee reproductive rights for all by enshrining Roe v. Wade into law.

This is all the more reason why we need to act urgently to protect our Democratic, pro-choice majority in the Senate. Right now, Republican-controlled state legislatures across the country are looking to further undermine Roe by passing unconstitutional, anti-choice laws of their own. There are over 500 anti-choice bills sitting in state legislatures right now.

We can’t afford to lose our slim Democratic majority in the Senate — without it, we can’t confirm federal judges that will uphold Roe and protect reproductive rights.
