Friends,
Over the last two days I’ve been observing the damage Hurricane Ida caused in our district. This storm brought unforeseen destruction — the tragic loss of life; flooding; tornadoes; and damage to businesses, homes, and property like I’ve never seen — and I’ve lived here my whole life.
But it also brought out the best in us — volunteers and neighbors pitching in to help their communities and strangers in need.
As we head into Labor Day weekend, I want to extend a sincere “thank you” to all those who keep us safe and support our communities, especially over this past year-and-a-half. I hope you know just how much I value your service to our district, our Commonwealth, and our nation.
And as I reflect on this service, I’m keenly aware of the fact that there’s more work to be done to level the economic playing field and to protect the essential workers who have kept our country running during the COVID-19 outbreak.
That’s why I’m as committed as ever to strengthening labor rights and protections in America. Coupling continued advocacy and organizing with thoughtful legislation like the PRO Act can ensure that we have a strong labor movement for generations to come.
As we fight for a more equitable future, I will continue to stand with all of you in furtherance of expanded workers’ rights.
With my sincere thanks and gratitude,
Madeleine Dean
