One in 10 Americans have diabetes — that’s more than 30 million people. In fact, it's the third most common chronic health disease affecting an estimated 2.22/1,000 children and adolescents according to The Search for Diabetes in Youth (SEARCH) Study. Diabetes management in children and adolescents requires complex daily management skills. Advances in diabetes technology continue to enhance the students' ability to manage diabetes at school, thus improving their quality of life. November is American Diabetes Month, and there's no better time to increase awareness of this chronic disease. NASN has a number of resources on diabetes. Managing Chronic Health Conditions New Resource: Oral Health Prevention Primer The American Academy of Pediatrics is pleased to announce publication of the Oral Health Prevention Primer, an interactive online resource for primary care physicians, non-dental professionals, providers, and advocates who want to do more to address the oral health needs of children, families and communities. Improving School Community & Student Health CDC Interim Guidance: Assessment of e-Cigarette Use Associated Lung Injury Based on the most current data, CDC’s updated interim guidance provides a framework for health care providers in their initial assessment, evaluation, management, and follow-up of persons with symptoms of e-cigarette, or vaping, product use associated lung injury. MADD Power of You(th) Every October, MADD staff and volunteers nationally activate around our youth underage prevention program Power of You(th) through enhanced exposure, specialized local activations, and, of course, an increased presence within the schools where we have staff and active volunteers. This year, MADD’s Power of You(th) program expands its focus to include looking at the short and long term dangers of marijuana use by youth. LEARN MORE "How Loud is Too Loud?" Book Released NCEH designed a new comic book titled “How Loud is Too Loud? as part of the “Ask a Scientist” comic series to learn about how to prevent noise induced hearing loss in a fun and engaging way.
