I’m angry we still have to have these battles fifty years after Roe v. Wade codified the right to choose in this country.

Tammy Duckworth

Friends,

I have always been an advocate for reproductive rights and healthcare access, so I was very disappointed that a new law just went into effect in Texas that effectively bans all abortion after six weeks of pregnancy with no exceptions — not even for rape or incest.

Six weeks is before many even know they are pregnant in the first place. It’s a completely outrageous standard.

And to make matters worse the law also offers $10,000 to anyone who successfully sues someone they think has helped a woman obtain an abortion. This opens up a Pandora’s box where any random citizen on the street can sue doctors, clinic staff or even an Uber driver who dropped a woman off at a clinic.

This law denies women the autonomy to make their own decisions, puts women’s health at risk and incentivizes people to go after their neighbors in order to earn money. It’s beyond dangerous, so please:

Add your name if you agree Texas’s new law must be overturned and the right to choose protected in this country.

Let me be clear: This abortion ban isn’t about protecting the sanctity of life. It’s about controlling women’s bodies.

No politician, whether in Texas or Washington, DC, has the right to make medical decisions for women across the country. Only women, with the help of their doctors, should be able to make such personal decisions. That’s why I’m not backing down – and why I’m asking you now:

Add your name to say you support the right to choose and want to see this backwards Texas abortion restriction overturned.

As you can tell, I’m angry about this. I’m angry we still have to have these battles fifty years after Roe v. Wade codified the right to choose in this country.

But all we can do now is use our anger to fuel action.

So will you fight with me?

All my best,

Tammy Duckworth
