This is the most important election in Canadian history. We have exactly
enough time to change course and transform our economy to ensure a livable
world. It is literally now or never.
This election is essentially a referendum for our climate.
Yet the nature of the campaign and the conduct of the other parties has
been dispiriting. The distractions over trivial matters have occupied more
air time than any science-based discussion of how we can protect our
future.
Our climate plan _Mission: Possible_ is the only viable plan grounded in
the IPCC advice so that we can hold to 1.5 degrees C - the Paris target. It
is _Mission: Possible_, not _Mission: _EASY. It will take a full-on effort
at all levels of our society. Or as our platform calls out: "All hands on
deck."
As Greta Thunberg said in Edmonton, it isn't politics, it's science. Only
Greens have the plan that will put us on a path to cut greenhouse gas
emissions by 60 per cent by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050, as science
says we must.
Many have commented that this is the dirtiest campaign in memory. I know I
have never experienced so many lies and distortions aimed at the Green
Party. But as our supporters know, this is only because we have never been
doing so well!
Today is Sunday and I am out on the campaign trail. With critical hours to
go, we need to spread the positive message that Green MPs can make a huge
difference. Working across party lines, we can deliver on pharmacare,
affordable child care and abolishing tuition while ensuring that we move
ahead in the critical struggle to achieve truth, justice and reconciliation
for Indigenous Peoples.
Greens will only work with other parties who listen to scientists and set
necessary climate targets, stop subsidizing the fossil fuel industry, stop
trampling Indigenous rights and ensure a just transition for workers and
communities.
The last 39 days have been extremely hard work. And I am so grateful to
know that you are also working hard in your own communities. It is critical
that we turn out the Green vote. We don't have four more years to wait for
climate action. It is all down to what happens tomorrow. Please go and vote
Green.
If you are unsure where or how to vote, visit the Elections Canada [1]
website and put in your postal code. All the information is there for you.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has already voted and
everyone who has supported us along the way. You've already made a
difference.
If you haven't voted yet, now's the time to vote for the change you want to
see -- MAKE OCTOBER 21, 2019 THE DAY WE MAKE CANADA A CLIMATE
LEADERĀ AGAIN.
Let's do this together,
Elizabeth May
Leader
Green Party of Canada
