Friend, have you heard about the attack on women’s health care in Texas?
The Texas legislature recently passed a bill banning abortion as early as six weeks -- before some women know they are pregnant -- and emboldens any private citizen to sue abortion providers and anyone even affiliated with the procedure. That means anyone who drives or transports someone to get an abortion, or even helps to pay for it.
This law went into effect in Texas on Wednesday, after the Supreme Court took no action to block it.
A person’s ability to make their own health care choices shouldn’t be controversial in 2021 -- yet we’re seeing blatant attacks on reproductive rights constantly.
This shouldn’t be up for debate, . We cannot move backward on reproductive health -- we must protect a woman’s right to choose.
I’m calling on my colleagues to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act -- to put health, equality, and the right to access abortion care above politics.
, this Texas bill nearly bans abortions completely and is one of the most restrictive in the entire country.
But Texas isn’t alone. Nearly 500 laws have been passed that restrict abortion access over the past decade. Absolutely no one should ever be treated like a criminal in public court for pursuing a private medical procedure that impacts their own health and wellbeing.
