This week, I launched the Safer Classrooms Workgroup. As the school year begins, it's critical for our kids' education and for their mental health that they stay in the classroom, and stay safe in the classroom.

We are bringing together highly skilled health professionals -- pediatricians, family physicians, school nurses, pharmacists, and school psychologists -- to promote health and safety in our schools. The Safer Classrooms Workgroup will talk with educators, parents, and advocates about their experiences and use the best available science and information to support our administration, local governments, and school districts.

Right now, COVID-19 rates in Kansas are still at levels higher than we experienced a year ago. ICUs statewide are either at capacity or nearly there. And until the vaccine is approved for kids under 12 years old, our children remain unprotected.

We have to do everything in our power to protect students, teachers, and staff in our schools. If you're a strong supporter of prioritizing our children's safety in the classroom, please add your name next to mine.

Every week, my office will release a "School Safety Report" with the latest information on vaccines, testing, mask mandates, and more. As we battle this deadly virus, it's important we work together and do everything we can to keep our children safe and in school.
