Here are the facts.
The $1.2 trillion bipartisan Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act (IIJA), which was passed by the Senate earlier this month, includes $550 billion in NEW physical infrastructure spending on roads and bridges, broadband, power reliability, safe drinking water, ports and waterways, and more.
The remaining $650 billion? It reflects baseline spending on infrastructure, or the money that has already been authorized by Congress. This portion of the legislation has several funding sources including the Highway Trust Fund, which is funded by existing revenue streams including the federal gas tax.
What does the United States get for this investment? We will experience a once-a-generation opportunity to rebuild our nation’s infrastructure, restore our economic competitiveness, enhance equipment manufacturers’ ability to meet the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century, and improve the lives of all Americans.
