Hi John,
A friend of mine has been dealing with Hurricane Ida since a lot of her family is there, and she’s trying to figure out living situations for them.
She also has family in Sacramento, not far from the fires. NYC, where she lives, flooded last night and lost power. This is what she told me:
“This is really bad and I’m just really stressed and overwhelmed right now. The climate crisis is so real. It’s devastating.”
I’m running for Congress to fight the climate crisis — and everyone in the establishment who stands in our way. I’m the only Democrat in this race who doesn’t take money from Chevron or Marathon Petroleum, so I need your help. Please donate $7 now to help me win.
People living in substandard basement apartments have drowned to death in the flooding on the East Coast. Guess who lives in substandard housing? Poor people. And the poverty rate is over twice as high for Black and Latino people as it is for white people. This is Exhibit #10,204 of how the climate crisis hits marginalized groups the hardest.
The climate crisis is here. Failing to act with boldness and urgency is the new climate denialism.
I don’t want to hear anyone in the establishment say the Green New Deal is too expensive. What’s too expensive is lives lost because of political inaction, because those lives are priceless and nothing can ever bring them back.
