Devastated. I'm devastated.

An unconstitutional piece of legislation just took effect in Texas, banning abortions after six weeks. This is the first time since Roe was decided that a state has successfully banned abortion. It also allows anti-abortion activists to sue anyone involved in helping someone obtain and an abortion and get paid to do so — vigilante injustice at its worst.

This is a tragic time for women in Texas and around the country. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. 

Overnight, about 7 million Texans of childbearing age lost a right that they’ve had for almost fifty years since Roe v. Wade became the law of the land. This will embolden the opponents of safe and legal abortion at a national scale, since SCOTUS has made clear they will do nothing to step in.

Mark my words: This is lighting a fire across the country – and not just among women.

That is why I’m reaching out to you now. Gov. Greg Abbott is enforcing his own political agenda at the expense of women. We will fight back. We will not give up.
