John,Hurricane Ida erupted ashore this week with 150 mph winds which made it a Category 4 Hurricane. The storm took down power lines, ripped roofs off houses, and left a trail of destruction in its wake.
It became so supercharged because of global climate change.
24 hours beforehand, Ida had only been a category 1 Hurricane — with winds blowing from 74-95 mph. But the Gulf of Mexico’s water temperature was 85 degrees, which fueled the storm. As Ida approached the shore, officials were stunned at how large and intense the storm became so quickly.
The recent International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report has confirmed it beyond any reasonable doubt: Climate change is fueling major weather events like hurricanes, and Hurricane Ida is yet another violent storm made worse because of climate change.
We are living with the consequences of climate inaction right now, John. It’s too late to turn back the clock, but it’s not too late to take decisive action to mitigate future effects of climate change. We need to get serious about protecting communities suffering from these and other disasters.
That’s why we are asking you to make a donation to SEEC PAC today so we can fully fund our Members of Congress who are fighting tooth-and-nail to decrease greenhouse gas emissions and prepare for the impacts of climate change. We are asking you to pitch in for our planet. [[link removed]]
