Texas just enacted one of the most extreme anti-choice laws since before the landmark Roe v. Wade decision.

Texas’s restrictive law bans procedures as early as six weeks into a pregnancy — before most women even know they’re pregnant — and opens the door for ANYONE to sue abortion providers or others who help someone obtain an abortion.

Think about that for a minute. Texas is deputizing its citizens to police women’s medical decisions and bodily autonomy.

But it gets worse.

Just before midnight last night — a day after Texas’s law went into effect — the Supreme Court declined to block it. The justices dealt a major blow to reproductive rights and women’s health care everywhere , essentially nullifying Roe and paving the way for other GOP-controlled states to follow suit.

Here in North Carolina, Roy is the reason we will NEVER see extreme right-wing anti-choice laws like this one. Republicans recently pushed to enact an extreme anti-abortion law before Gov. Cooper shut them down.

But we need to make sure it stays that way. If the GOP has their way in elections to come, they’ll build a far-right supermajority that could end Gov. Cooper’s ability to veto radical, restrictive laws targeting women’s rights. Not on our watch.
