Texas may be the first state to ban abortion, but it won’t be the last. The 5-4 conservative majority out of the Supreme Court refusing to even consider the case sets an extremely dangerous precedent, and is effectively an attempt to overturn Roe V. Wade altogether.

While there is work that can and must be done on the federal level to protect abortion rights, currently the best defense against cruel bans like these is electing Democratic governors.
