Short-barreled rifles are effectively portable, easily concealable assault weapons – and the gun industry is using a legal loophole to make them more accessible to the general public.
Luckily, President Biden is proving once again that he is a gun violence prevention champion: He has proposed a rule that will close the loophole that makes it easy to turn a pistol into more lethal short-barreled rifles – weapons that are growing in popularity amongst mass shooters.

Right now, gun manufacturers and buyers are using certain “stabilizing braces” to circumvent federal gun regulations and make short-barreled rifles accessible. A stabilizing brace is a device that can be attached to a pistol to help a shooter "stabilize" their arm, originally designed to assist individuals with disabilities. But some accessories marketed as stabilizing braces are circumventing our gun laws, allowing shooters to turn pistols into illegal short-barreled rifles and enable easy, accurate, and rapid fire that makes the firearm significantly more deadly.
We have until midnight on Wednesday, September 8, to submit comments supporting President Biden’s executive order calling for the ATF to prevent this dangerous misuse, and we are counting on all of our top activists – like you, John – to take action right now:
