Friend,

Hurricane Ida was not a natural disaster.

It was a fossil-fuel-generated climate disaster—and it's just the latest proof of what happens when we fail to address the crisis playing out in front of us.

It's time to get to the root of it—for too long, the fossil fuel industry has destabilized our climate and treated Black and brown communities as disposable without consequence. This moment calls for infrastructure investments that combat the climate crisis and center environmental justice.

The budget reconciliation package making its way through Congress right now is our best shot at doing just that. We cannot let this moment pass us by, and we cannot let climate change deniers tell us this isn't the time to talk politics.

Raise your voice with us today: Call your representative to demand that they include crucial climate investments in the reconciliation bill. We've got a script if you need it.

Storms like Katrina, Harvey, Maria, and Ida aren't "once-a-century" events anymore. But this time, we have a chance to deliver a truly just recovery and ensure that Black and brown communities are not once again left behind.

That's why simply rebuilding after Ida is not enough. As Louisiana begins to recover from this fossil-fuel-generated disaster, we cannot afford to repeat the mistakes of the past. We can, and we must, stop the cycle of devastation.

Please don't look the other way. Call your representative today and urge them to pass a reconciliation bill with bold, transformational climate investments that put us on the path to a just and equitable future.

Thank you,

Wes Gobar
