Hi John,

Yesterday, the Texas Legislature passed one of the most restrictive abortion bans this country has ever seen and my heart is broken for the Texans who just lost access to critical health care.

This is personal to me: Over 20 years ago, I found myself on the verge of death.

While 35 weeks pregnant, I went into labor with my first child. After 14 hours in labor while suffering multiple seizures and fighting to hang onto my life, my beautiful, healthy daughter was delivered.

When I became pregnant again, my husband, doctor, and I all sat down and discussed what this meant. We knew very well that this pregnancy could leave me dead and my daughter without a mother.

I made the choice to continue with the pregnancy. Today, I am a profoundly proud mom to two daughters. And when looking back at that decision, I am eternally grateful that I had the option to discuss other possibilities with my husband and my doctor.

I know that many of you are scared right now. Scared of far-right politicians, like Mike Garcia, clawing back the rights and protections over our bodies that we have spent generations fighting for. I know just how personal, how fundamental, and how necessary the right to choice is.

This campaign isn't just about a fundamental difference of opinion between Mike and me. This campaign is about radical Republicans, like Mike, making decisions about our bodies.

I know today feels dark but for the people of Texas who just lost access to life saving healthcare, I refuse to give up this fight.
