John, 

Any day now, we could witness the fastest expansion of the federal prison
population in the history of the United States.

4,000+ people - the majority of whom are elderly and immunocompromised -
will be sent back to prison when the pandemic is declared over, despite
living successfully and safely on home confinement with their families and
communities for the past year. 

John, this is what we need to do to protect 4,000 people:

Congress members Cori Bush, Pramila Jayapal, David Trone, and Bonnie
Watson Coleman are leading the call to action with a sign-on letter
demanding Biden grant clemency for all those on home confinement.

We have been working hard to move Biden toward granting clemency over the
past few months, and are making great progress. 

In fact, the Administration has signaled willingness to grant clemency for
non-violent drug offenders on home confinement. 

But John, ALL of the individuals on home confinement need
clemency now. Everyone in the program was already rigorously vetted by the
Bureau of Prisons in order to be on home confinement in the first place.
And almost everyone released has since been thriving at home by
reconnecting with their friends, families, and communities, and engaging
in civic and professional life. 

We can’t let Biden pick and choose who deserves to be at home with their
families and who deserves to be locked up in a cage based on historically
racist criteria. 

If Biden is going to make a meaningful impact towards ending racialized
mass incarceration, he needs to grant clemency to the 4,000+ people living
on home confinement today.

Time is of the essence: Each day that Biden doesn’t take action is another
day that leaves families in purgatory, impeding them from making
meaningful investments in their families, employment or education - all
necessary steps to fully reintegrate into their communities. 

John, your Congressperson is currently out of D.C. and in YOUR
district. That’s why it’s so important we send them a letter now and let
them know that the people they represent care about this issue.

Biden wants to push Congress to come up with a fix, but we can’t let him
pass the buck. A congressional fix could take months or maybe years to
pass. 

We can’t wait that long. We need to take care of our community now. 

And Biden has the power to do just that.

We can prevent this troubling growth of the prison population,
John, but we need all hands on deck to move Biden - including
Congress.
