All of us are seeing the effects of climate change, as we face hotter
summers, longer wildfire seasons, stronger hurricanes, and more. Even
here in the United States, coastal towns and cities are starting to
see the effects of sea level rise.
The Quileute tribe of Washington state is being forced to relocate its
school and tribal government more than two miles away from the
crumbling coastline, where high tides and storms regularly wash up
debris in the school yard.
In Alaska, Mike Williams Sr, Yup'ik, chief of the Akiak Native
Community, said, "Permafrost is melting, villages are sinking in
the tundra. A couple of years ago, because of the extreme heat, there
were dead salmon floating down on the river. The
wildlife-everything-is being impacted. We're at
ground zero."
Climate change is a global problem-and requires global
solutions. There are no quick fixes, but there are proven solutions
that can change this frightening trajectory.
Here at Population Connection, we will tirelessly proclaim the single
most effective solution to climate change: global population
stabilization.
You can find hope in this message, as I do, because empowering women
and girls to stop population growth and climate change is one solution
that requires no technological interventions.
But it does require making sure that every single woman of
reproductive age wishing to prevent pregnancy right now gains access
to reproductive health care and modern contraceptives. THIS we can do!
But only with your help.
That's why I hope you'll make a gift towards our Climate
Matching Gift Challenge today. The deadline has been extended to
September 15th, and your gift of
$25.00 can help us meet our
generous sponsoring donor's $100,000 challenge.
