NEW REPORT: 94.4% of hospitals are not complying with the price transparency rules put in place that require them to post their prices online.
Why? The penalty for hiding their prices is just a drop in the bucket for them.
Friend-
that’s why we need you to speak up now to demand GREATER price transparency from hospitals.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is seeking public comments from now until September 17 on increasing the financial penalty for hospital noncompliance and strengthening the rule.Â
Require hospitals to inform patients of the price upfront, and run public service announcements to educate Americans that they have a right to ask—and get answers—about costs.
Eliminate estimates and require guaranteed prices.Â
Increase penalties to a minimum of $300 per bed per day—instead of $10 per bed per day—up to $5,500 a bed per day (as the rule proposes).
Remove all barriers and allow patients to access real prices without having to disclose any personal information.
Require consistent data standards and formatting, so patients and employers can compare prices across facilities and plans, and so tech companies can create tools to enable consumers to shop.
By strengthening the rule and increasing penalties for noncompliance, the administration can deliver REAL healthcare price transparency, drive down prices through competition, and improve access to care and coverage for all Americans.
