Dear John,

On Saturday, we let you know about our preparation for nationwide immigration raids. While we are relieved that large-scale raids did not occur, we will not be letting our guard down.

The fact is, the attacks on families continue.

This week, a rule went into effect that would bar many individuals seeking protection from being able to apply for asylum in the United States if they passed through another country to get here.

But we expect families to continue arriving at the border seeking asylum. Many will be held and screened at the largest family detention center in the country in Dilley, Texas.

This is where the American Immigration Council steps in.

We are on the ground at the detention center in Dilley, Texas providing critical legal services to these families—together with our partners at the American Immigration Lawyers Association. Without an attorney, immigrants are much less likely to get the protection they need through the asylum process.

Our preparedness for mass enforcement and critical on-the-ground services in immigration detention are just some of the ways we are standing with families and ensuring our doors remain open to those seeking safety.

We look forward to keeping you updated.

Sincerely,

Beth Werlin

Dear John,

Raids are expected this weekend. I wanted to let you know that the American Immigration Council is committed to a fair day in court for those swept up.

Next week, we commit to keeping you updated with information from Dilley and from other Immigration Justice Campaign locations. On Twitter, we’ll be sharing information as we receive it, and we’ll make sure to keep you aware of what we’re doing.

Sincerely,

Beth Werlin
