Court confirms EU rules for Myanmar timber

Royal Boogaerdt Timber broke the due diligence requirements of the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR) by importing Myanmar teak, the Council of State in the Netherlands confirmed. The court also upheld a penalty barring the company from continuing to trade in teak. Boogaerdt was the subject of a substantiated concern made by EIA following an investigation in 2016. We also contributed to the case by submitting expert analysis of documents and participated as an observer at the hearing of the case in March.

Nigeria’s seven tonne haul of pangolin scales

Nigeria Customs seized 7.137 tonnes of pangolin scales and 846.34kg of ivory shortly before the US Embassy, in partnership with EIA and the Africa Nature Investors Foundation, launched a legal analysis to help the country fight illegal wildlife trade.
