John,
As of yesterday morning, because of the Supreme Court's refusal to intervene, Roe v. Wade functionally ceased to exist in Texas. They now have the most extreme abortion law in the country, and its effects will be immediate and devastating.
Not only does the extreme law ban abortion at six weeks, which is before most people even know they’re pregnant, it deputizes private citizens to act like bounty hunters, promising a $10,000 reward to those who successfully sue anyone who they believe is providing or assisting someone in accessing abortion.
I want to make it extremely clear where I stand on this issue, John: The right to an abortion is non-negotiable. Reproductive freedom is sacred both in Pennsylvania and across America.
It's obvious that we can't rely on the Supreme Court that Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell stacked with conservative justices like Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett to protect Roe v. Wade.
It's time for Democrats in Washington to act.
Democrats in the House and Senate should vote like Democrats and scrap the filibuster — allowing the swift and essential passage of bills like the Women's Health Protection Act that would protect reproductive freedom nationally.
John, send me to the U.S. Senate, and I guarantee you that I will NOT hesitate for a second to protect abortion access and pass the kinds of bold legislation that would transform our country. But I can't get there without you.
Here in Pennsylvania, Governor Wolf and I will veto ANY bill that limits a person's reproductive freedom.
Together, we're the first and second line of defense for abortion rights and reproductive freedom in our Commonwealth.
But the truth is, John, it isn't enough. Democrats must immediately enact federal protections for reproductive rights on the national level so we can prevent the types of regressive anti-woman abortion bans like the one we're seeing in Texas.
So I'll say for the umpteenth time. The filibuster must go. And we have to fight as hard as we can to elect enough Democrats to the U.S. Senate who will fight relentlessly to defend abortion access.
Send me to the U.S. Senate, and I will *always* act with conviction and vote in favor of progress for the working families of our Commonwealth.
Send me to the U.S. Senate, and I will be the 51st Democratic YES vote on urgent changes, like abolishing the filibuster and defending reproductive rights for people across this nation.
Send me to the U.S. Senate, and I will be a leader for ALL Pennsylvanians. No one taken for granted. No left behind.
That's what this campaign is about, and why I'm counting on your support.
Thank you,
John
