Now that the war in Afghanistan is over, let's look back at right-wing lies that have been going viral.

Let's start with the story about the Taliban hanging someone from a helicopter -- a lie shared by none other than ice storm-fleeing Ted Cruz. The story quickly went viral, but here's the thing: it didn't happen, and was simply an attempt to fix a flag on a building.

Now let's talk about the flurry of viral posts surrounding supposed military dogs left behind. ALSO DIDN'T HAPPEN. That story is a lie. Our military did not leave a single working dog behind.

Earlier this week, there were tweets showing the Taliban with tanks. Disinformation spread quickly that they were American tanks seized by the Taliban, when in fact they were old Soviet-era tanks that are no longer functional. So that was another lie.

And NO, the Taliban did not "seize $83 billion of U.S. weapons." That whopper earned Three Pinocchios from the Washington Post.

The right has to lie because the truth is too damaging for them. If you see a graphic or video on social media, please do your due diligence and fact check it.

Meanwhile, our team at VoteVets will continue to do our part to battle right-wing disinformation on social media and elsewhere. Pitch in to support our efforts if you can. This is a very serious issue that has major implications for our democracy.

All our best,

VoteVets
