Friend,
If you follow the Drug Policy Alliance, it’s no surprise to you that the failed 50-year-old war on drugs has devastated families and violated human rights. In that time, the drug war has seeped into nearly every aspect of our lives causing unjust harm to millions. It has had an impact on you, your neighbors, your family, and your friends—whether you realize it or not.
Friend, that’s why, right now, we urgently need you in this fight. Please join us as an official DPA member and help us stop the injustice and end this war.
Why is it urgent? Because every 23 seconds, someone is arrested simply for possessing drugs, with devastating impacts, making it harder to get a job, housing, student financial aid, and more.
Drug possession remains the most arrested offense in the United States despite the well-known fact that drug arrests tear families apart and cause trauma that can be felt for generations. And drug criminalization is driving the overdose crisis that claimed the lives of 94,000 loved ones in 2020.
Enough is enough. It’s time to end the drug war. And the most critical step we can take right now is to remove criminal penalties for drugs and invest in health-centered approaches to problematic drug use.
Criminalizing people must not be our default policy towards drugs. In the time you read this email, six people will have been arrested. SIX! Drug decriminalization cannot come fast enough. We need you to become an official DPA member to make it happen!
Friend, there is power in numbers. When you join us as a member, you’ll help us increase the pressure on legislators to treat drug use as a health issue, not a criminal problem. Please become a member today.

Thank you,

P.S. If you can, I strongly encourage you to join me as a Reformers Club member with a monthly donation. Drug war zealots will not stop, and you can’t either. When you join the Reformers Club, you’ll provide critical funding to fight back against cruel drug war policies—from the State House, to the People’s House, and everywhere in between.
