In the dead of night, the Supreme Court effectively overturned Roe v. Wade and undid nearly 50 years of constitutional protections for reproductive health when they allowed Texas' draconian abortion ban to go into effect.

Texas' SB 8 is a horrific, repugnant attack on the reproductive freedoms and rights of millions of Texans. It doesn't just ban abortions as early as 6 weeks – before many even know they are pregnant – it puts a bounty of at least $10,000 on anyone who helps someone obtain an abortion in Texas, and provides no exceptions for incest or rape.

This law is blatantly unconstitutional. It is the culmination of Republicans' decades-long assault on Roe v. Wade , aided and abetted by right-wing judges who now hold a majority on the Supreme Court, and enabled by the Republican Senators who put them there.

Today my heart is with the millions of people in Texas, particularly those with low incomes or from marginalized communities, who will disproportionately feel the effect of this travesty. The right to an abortion is basic health care and the exercise of personal and private liberty.

In 2017, Oregon Democrats passed the Reproductive Health Equity Act into law, codifying the right to legal abortion in Oregon and ensuring that any person in our state, no matter where they live or how much they make, has access to the full complement of reproductive health care. We won't stop fighting until every American has those same rights and protections.

This is an important moment where we can act in solidarity with everyone who is working to protect reproductive rights across the country.

Our friends at the Texas Democratic Party are asking for help to generate support for some of the advocates and abortion funds that are doing incredible work on the ground in Texas [[link removed]] .

We'd also ask that you consider supporting organizations like Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon [[link removed]] and NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon [[link removed]] that are dedicated to defending and expanding our right to reproductive health care here in Oregon.
