Steady Progress Friend,
Hurricane Ida, one of the strongest storms to ever hit the state of Louisiana, decimated so many communities in southeast Louisiana just a few days ago.
Rescue and relief efforts have begun. To help centralize all of the information that you may need to know, Governor John Bel Edwards’ office has launched hurricanerecovery.la.gov. This website is a centralized location that those affected by Hurricane Ida can visit to register for FEMA, pre-register for DSNAP, and get important updates.
On Monday Governor Edwards met with President Biden, Senior Advisor to the President Cedric Richmond, and local leaders to discuss the impacts of Hurricane Ida. They also discussed Biden’s approval of Governor Edwards’ request for a federal disaster declaration.
Governor Edwards traveled to Terrebonne, St. John the Baptist, and Lafourche parishes on Tuesday with FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell, the American Red Cross, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to meet with local officials and assess the damages within their communities. These parishes were some of the heaviest impacted by Hurricane Ida. Today Governor Edwards traveled to Jefferson and Orleans parishes to assess the damage and meet with local officials concerning the needs for their communities.
Remember that most hurricane-related deaths occur during relief efforts because of things like carbon monoxide poisoning and flooded automobiles. Follow all guidance given by manufacturers when operating a generator and do not attempt to drive through floodwaters.
If you are in southeast Louisiana and are expecting to travel any time soon check 511LA.org for road conditions and text 'LASHELTER' to 898211 for shelter options. If you evacuated prior to Hurricane Ida please do not return until local officials say it is clear to do so.
