The 2020 election was decided by a record <[link removed]> turnout of nearly 160 million Americans. Since the election, some states are taking extreme measures to restrict voting, manipulate elections or empower state legislatures to overturn results. Such attempts to hurt the electoral process are undemocratic and un-American.



In response to these attacks, the Renew America Movement has released a letter calling on governors of all 50 states to stand up to these attacks on our elections. Among the signers are former Governors Bill Weld and Christine Todd Whitman. Other key signatories include: Lt. Gov and RNC Chair Michael Steele, as well as former Members of Congress Charles Djou, Claudine Schneider, Dick Zimmer, and Mickey Edwards.



Click to read the letter ⮕ <[link removed]>The record turnout for the 2020 election was inspiring, especially when considering the election took place during a global pandemic. States took steps to expand absentee voting, early voting, and other methods to make the voting process easier and safer for all voters. Without such methods, it is safe to assume the record turnout seen in 2020 would not have been possible. Some state legislatures and other leaders want to reverse this progress and make voting more difficult. 



Those who seek to make voting more difficult often argue they are worried only about election integrity and ensuring the vote is secure. They mistakenly believe increased voter access means increased voter fraud and fraudulent results. The reality is, election fraud is already extremely rare <[link removed]> in the United States. Even during the 2020 election with more voters and more ways to vote, the election and its results were both secure and accurate <[link removed]>. Despite this, some elected officials continue to hold onto lies spread by Donald Trump that the election was fraudulent, and for these officials the way to correct this perceived fraud is to restrict voting. This approach is wrong and represents a solution in search of a problem.



It is time to stand up to those that would like to stop all eligible people from voting. An easy way to do this is at the state level, calling on governors and other elected officials to stand up and defend our elections.
