We made monumental strides in delivering for the people of Texas during the 87th Legislative Session. We took additional steps against abortion to protect the lives of the unborn. We are ensuring our police officers receive adequate funding. Finally, today, we get to see these bills and other critical legislation officially go into effect.




We have again shown that Texas is a pro-life state by passing legislation that will save thousands of unborn babies. Human life is sacred, and should be protected at all stages.




Since I have been Lt. Governor, the Texas Senate has passed the strongest pro-life legislation in history. Now officially in effect, the Heartbeat Bill bans abortions as early as six weeks or when a hearbeat is detected. This bill is a victory for life and demonstrates our commitment to protecting Texas’ most vulnerable.




Constitutional Carry is now in effect, which protects the rights of gun owners. Starting today, Texans at least 21 years old can now openly carry a handgun without receiving a permit or training, as long as they don’t have a criminal record.




In our fight to protect life, liberty, and Texas values, here are a few other bills we passed that will also go into effect today:



1. Star-Spangled Banner Protection Act
2. Protect Our Freedom to Worship Bill
3. Stop Local Police Defunding Bill




Our work isn’t finished yet, but these bills serve as a testament to our steadfast commitment to our conservative values and doing what’s right - even in the toughest of times.




I am proud of the work we have done this past session, and I am looking forward to continuing to pass legislation that will benefit Texans. The Democrats are doing everything they can to roll back our conservative progress and defeat Republicans like me because I keep my word.
