Medicare expansion hangs in the balance

Dear John,

In the immediate weeks ahead, lawmakers will be negotiating a spending package that includes provisions targeting two of the most crucial issues facing older Americans: prescription drug pricing and Medicare expansion.

One thing is clear: the public wants Medicare expanded. According to a new Morning Consult poll, 84% of voters support adding dental, vision and hearing coverage to traditional Medicare. And eight in ten Americans say the cost of prescription drugs is “unreasonable.”

Make no mistake this looming battle for the future of Medicare will have far-reaching consequences for current and future beneficiaries. And the National Committee is using every resource at our disposal to ensure Congress does not squander this historic opportunity to allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices with pharmaceutical corporations and then use that savings to enact a long-awaited expansion of Medicare to include dental, hearing and vision coverage.

With so much at stake, we need you to stay informed and engaged as we work to deliver to older Americans the relief they desperately need from punishing drug prices — and provide them with care for their eyes, ears and teeth, which are gateways to improved overall health.

So thank you for taking charge of your retirement and health security! You have my guarantee that the National Committee will continue to provide the hard, unvarnished truth about what’s really going on with issues of enormous importance to you and your family — and numerous opportunities to participate in our fight to strengthen Medicare.

Sincerely,

Max Richtman
President & CEO
