Dear team,
Today, Texans are waking up to a world without access to nearly all abortion services in the state. Texas' radical ban on abortion after just six weeks of pregnancy went into effect at midnight, bringing almost all abortion services to an abrupt stop.
The courts have yet to intervene, but this fight is not over. We are doubling down our efforts to protect abortion access across the state in partnership with our client, Whole Woman's Health, one of the leading plaintiffs in the case.
Last night, Whole Woman's Health's Texas clinics were providing abortion care up until 11:59 PM CDT—the minute before the law went into effect. Approximately 85% to 90% of people who obtain an abortion in Texas are at least six weeks into pregnancy, meaning this law has put abortion entirely out of reach for a majority of Texans.
The law also encourages vigilante lawsuits by allowing anyone to sue someone they suspect of helping another person access abortion—with at least a $10,000 reward for every successful suit.
We stand with the people of Texas and Texan abortion providers today, and every day. You can learn more about the critical work Whole Woman's Health Alliance is doing to provide the care Texans deserve while helping to fight this law here.
Thank you for standing with us in the fight for access to safe, legal abortion care everywhere. Follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook for the latest updates as we continue working on this case.
In solidarity,
