Dear John,
Early this morning, Senate Bill 8—a law that effectively bans abortion in Texas—went into effect. This law is outrageous and dangerous, and even though the Supreme Court failed to act last night, it's blatantly unconstitutional.
SB 8 bans abortion after six weeks, before most people know they are pregnant. What is just as shocking is that this law could also let ANYONE—people like anti-abortion extremists—sue abortion providers and anyone that helps someone get an abortion, even friends, family members, or clinic volunteers.
Let’s be very clear—everyone should be able to get the abortion care they need, when they need it. We’re not done fighting to protect abortion access. And neither are our allies on the ground.
Our friends in Texas have planned an art performance protest to raise awareness about SB 8 going into effect. You can click here to find a planned protest in Texas and around the country. If you cannot make it in person, you can join the protest virtually.
And here’s a list of the many amazing organizations working on the ground to protect abortion access for Texans:
We all need to be in this fight with advocates and providers in Texas—because a law like this is dangerous for all of us, no matter where we live.
In solidarity,
