Dear John,

We look forward to celebrating 17 wonderful years of empowering women later this month on September 28. In 2004, Karin Lips, NeW Founder and President, sought out a women’s group on campus at the University of Virginia where she and other women could talk about the issues they cared about most. She was disappointed to find out that one did not exist, at least one that was welcoming to conservative women. This is how the Network of enlightened Women began.

Over the past 17 years, thousands of college and young professional women have been impacted by NeW—from introducing women to policy experts to helping them land internships to providing them with an empowering alternative to feminism.

To conclude our month-long celebration, we are excited to host our annual Anniversary Celebration on September 28 from 6-8pm ET outside on the Jack and Nancy Weiss Terrace at The Heritage Foundation in Washington, DC. This event will bring together NeW women from our college chapters and Professional Network as well as friends of the network for an evening of celebration and networking. We hope you can join us!

We are proud to announce our 2021 NeW Empowered Woman of the Year is Congresswoman Kat Cammack. During our Anniversary Celebration, we will be presenting Congresswoman Cammack with the award, and she will be delivering the keynote remarks. NeW alumna Adeline Sandridge, Congresswoman Cammack's Communications Director, will introduce her.

Our Conservative Woman of the Month is...

NeW has deemed 2021 “The Year of the Conservative Woman.” Each month we are posting a conversation with a featured Conservative Woman of the Month. We are proud to announce our September Conservative Woman of the Month is Kristin Olsen, former California State assemblywoman and a Partner at California Strategies, LLC, the state’s largest public affairs consulting firm.

From 2017-2020, Olsen served as a member of the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors. Prior to this, Olsen was elected to the California State Assembly in November 2010 and served until 2016. She was chosen by her colleagues to serve as Minority Leader of the California State Assembly, becoming the first mother of school-aged children to serve as leader of a Republican or Democratic caucus in the California Legislature.

Olsen currently serves on the Board of Directors for CA Women Lead that recruits and trains women to pursue appointed and elected office.

Before being elected to the Assembly, Olsen served five years on the Modesto City Council and two years on the Modesto Planning Commission. Her first job out of college was as a California Senate Fellow (’96-’97) and then a legislative aide and press secretary in the State Senate.

Olsen graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. from Westmont College. She lives in Modesto, CA, with her three children, and loves music and soccer.

We hope you will join us on Thursday, September 9 at 2pm ET on Facebook Live ([link removed]) for an engaging discussion with our Conservative Woman of the Month.
