Constantly having to ask people for money is the absolute worst part of running for office. Here's why I'm doing it.
Hi John,
Kimberly here. Yes, really me, really writing this. (Hit “reply” if you have any questions or comments, I’ll get back to you.) There are many absolutely wonderful parts of running for office; but asking other working-class folks, like you, to invest money in a campaign is NOT one of them.
We need public-funded elections so everyone has an equal shot when they run for office, regardless of their connections or lack of connections to wealthy campaign donors. But we don’t have that (yet).
Our country's campaign finance system is pretty hard on working people because we have to work full-time at our regular jobs AND work on the campaign. So why am I doing this?
Well, friends, we are the ones we’ve been waiting for. I’m doing it for the people I've met; for the folks I’ve represented in my 22-year career - the kids and parents; for those who come after us, for my son to live in a more just nation, and for you and everyone else who needs the changes I plan to bring to our justice system.
For them, for you, for all of us, restoring trust in our justice system is critical, and quitting isn't an option.
Your donation goes to pay for advertising, yard signs, literature to hand out when we knock on doors and visit community businesses, our email software, postage, and much more. Folks can’t vote for me if they haven’t heard of me. Your donation directly helps get our message out there so we can win and create a more just justice system!
Thank you, from my heart, as always.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Graham
