We are about to head into the month when the future of voting rights, the future of our democracy itself, could be decided.
The Senate returns from recess this September and it will be make-or-break time for them to pass the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.
If the Senate does not act on certain democracy-saving provisions contained within the For the People Act this fall, we could be looking at an electoral wipeout in 2022, followed by another in 2024. This is because of how outrageously far-right Republicans are rigging the playing field with their voter suppression, gerrymandering, and usurpation of the vote counting and certification process in key states.
Here’s the thing… we’re well behind our August fundraising goal. And as an organization whose work is largely funded by our members and grassroots supporters, that could have a devastating impact right now.
We get it. Fundraising and member engagement can slow down in the summer, especially August. But make no mistake, the Far Right is waging an all-out war on our democracy and it’s up to us to save it.
That’s why we need our strongest supporters, like you, to step up and power the work that’s needed to save the right to vote and protect free and fair elections in our country.
With the help of members and supporters like you, we’ve spent the summer escalating the fight to save voting rights and democracy with ramped-up pressure on senators AND the Biden administration, raising awareness in the press, starting a civil disobedience campaign, and building an undeniable movement of democracy-loving Americans who are standing with us every day to make sure the cornerstone of the American experiment – government by the People – survives.
Time is running out to save our democracy. Let’s make sure we’re doing everything we can.
